I have a couple of projects I am working on now where I think this supports would be awesome and not require me to make so many design changes for some miniscule overhangs.

If you wanted to keep the supports you could define the support extrusion width to be thicker which would make them stronger. It came out fine but the supports were a pain in the ass to remove, and had to be cut and sanded just to look slightly decent. I assumed that was just how it was and did not bother trying again.
