John deere gator clutch problems

The dry clutch system as used on Gators is just that, a DRY system. Introducing any sort of lubricant is a bad thing to do. It might free up a stuck clutch for a short period of time, but the effect, if any, will be short lived. Even if there are cases where it frees up the clutch mechanism, the belt itself relies on friction.

Reason for pulling - hard to shift out of reverse. Been that way for a while, my first time pulling / attempting a clutch rebuild. Gator is about 700hrs. There was a slight "creak/squeak to the spring" when compressing by hand, spring looks ok (some of the red paint flaked off top/bottom) - will probably replace anyway.The transaxle function is to select F/R/N. It does no shifting like an auto or manual transmission. Ratio changes are done by the clutch (CVT) including it to slip while at a stop and in gear. Fired it up, backed out of the garage, let off the gas, and the machine keeps slowly moving in reverse. Couldn't get it to shift to neutral without shutting off the engine. Fired it back up and it was hard to shift into high. Also same result, machine would creep forward without any gas. Clutch issues. Our Deere Rep stopped by the shop yesterday and I asked about some stuff to include the 825i and 550 clutch issues. According to him, there is a fix coming out for the drive clutches on the 825i that will either be a clutch/belt replacement or a rework of the clutch. As for the 550 clutch, it seems the last fix is working.
