I don't believe bending the float arm on these models is a typical adjustment procedure. The external adjustment should get the job done. Your idle mixture settings could fall anywhere between 1 and 2 turns out. That adjustment is best accomplished in conjunction with an accurate vacuum reading. Engine speed is also important.
